Mental Health – A Distressing Problem That Needs To Be Addressed

Mental health issues have been in the spotlight recently, and with good reason. It is a disease just like any other and deserves treatment just like any disease. Lucky in the UK we have an excellent public healthcare service (no thanks to the Tories and fuck you Farage!) but there is still a disturbing lack of resources dedicated to mental health therapy.

For my inaugural blog post I’ve decided to talk about mental health and how one particular technique helped me with my own struggle with anxiety and depression. I hope you find something useful in these words.

What is Mental Health?

Mental health refers to the status of your mind, thoughts, emotions, cognition and behavior. It affects how we interact with others, how we reason and how we perform our day to day activities. Mental health is divided into two improved mental health and impaired mental health.

A person is said to have optimal (improved) mental health when they have full control of themselves when they can realize their potential when they can be aware of their problems and be able to cope with them and lastly, those that make a reasonable contribution to themselves and to the society around them. If one cannot achieve all of the above they are said to have an impaired mental health where lots of therapy is needed, more precisely, hypnotherapy.

What Is The Importance Of Mental Health?

Mental health is of paramount significance in our daily lives. It is what that ensures a country runs well, helps us make the right choices, you perform your job well, people are able to mingle and continue with their lives perfectly when there is optimal mental health.

a) Mental health improves our cognitive levels

When we have a right functioning mental system, our concentration, our focus, our energy and sharpness of the mind is improved.

b) Improved self-esteem

When we have optimal mental health, we are more confident and appealing to our counterparts. It raises your self-esteem, it increases your boldness and courage to perform things. We can be able to do big things since we have a great functioning mental health. It also improves self-esteem because deep in you, you feel you have a sense of purpose in this world.

c) Improves quality of life ( QOL )

When we have optimal mental health, we tend to enjoy more things and live life. Impaired mental state presents as depression, anxiety, stress, addictions, physiological and emotional distress among many others. These symptoms make us not to enjoy our lives to the fullest. Meeting a hypnotherapist could be a breakthrough to someone suffering from all the above.

d) Help Us Create Healthy Relationships With People

Improved mental health status attracts more people towards you. Depression, panic or maniac behaviors put away so many people and make you tend to be so lonely. When you have cured off this conditions, you become easily presentable and attractive to many people. It allows you to speak out freely to people than before.

e) Positive Societal Benefits

Improved mental health helps us make improved life choices, decisions and positive amendments which are fundamental in making of someone’s life. Improved mental health makes us be more productive to the society rather than become a burden.

Hypnotherapy – What Is It?

Hypnotherapy is a type of management therapy technique that involves putting the subject (patient) into a half-conscious state (trans-state). It tries to change unpleasant behavior by utilizing the unconscious mind to effect changes in the conscious mind of the client.

Hypnotherapist: Who is this?

A hypnotherapist is a person, a health professional who induces the hypnosis, using various methods in a bid to let you achieve mental relaxation. You should look for a qualified hypnotherapist; personally I went to an awesome hypnotherapist in Reading, Berkshire, but if you’re not in the area you can seek other resources.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help You Improve Your Mental Health

So, how does the hypnotherapy work?

This therapy as earlier quoted utilises your subconscious mind to help the conscious part of the brain change the way you reason, the way you behave and how you live.

When the hypnotherapist has used his various techniques to put you into the hypnotic (sleepy, day-dreaming, trance-like, subconscious) state, you are easily able to respond to suggestions and questions the hypnotherapists asks you.

The hypnotherapist focuses his questions and suggestions based on the problem you called him for. This could be gambling addiction, smoking, stress, depression, anxiety, panic among many others. The hypnotherapy is usually disease or symptom specific.

The aim of the hypnotherapist is aimed at refocusing your unpleasant or unwanted behaviors to other better practices. The therapy helps you try to focus and adjust to your inner problems, fears, negative thoughts patterns which cumulatively help banish conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Sometimes, we do not know what is disturbing us or what that has been affecting us for so long. The hypnotherapy helps you pronounce it to your hypnotherapists after a couple of sessions. This enables your diagnosis to be identified and the right management is given. Certain types of conditions that have been diagnosed with hypnotherapy include Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Depression, Phobias/ Fears, Weight Loss among others. This makes it an important diagnostic tool.

Benefits of Hypnotherapy

  1. It does not focus on the use of drugs.
  2. It is a natural method
  3. You can also do it yourself at home. It is called self-hypnosis
  4. It has controlled and prevented a lot of mental health ailments

NB: Seek advice from your health professional hypnotherapist before attempting this therapy.
